Carl Taylors Caddy

Darren from G-Werks initially approached us with the concept, and two weeks later it was a reality - the first carbon fibre bed on a mk1 caddy.

Carl Taylor was out to create something bold and different, to stamp his signiture on a well-know caddy and within 2 weeks before the e38 show. The resulting truck is probably the most talked about caddy of all time..

We brought the caddy into the workshop, hoping to take a mould straight from the original bed, but soon realised that the warping on the steel and flaking paint wasn't going to meet our standards - especially if these were going to be made available to others in the future. With no option of buying a new part to mould from (VW had discontinued them) we set about hand-sculpting a replica bed in MDF.

Once shaped and radiused in wood, we could add the internal radii in plastercine, before moulding, then production of the part itself.

Fitting the new carbon part was also carried out in-house, as well as some last-minute smoothing work on the tailgate shuts.

The car caused a stir at e38, and now its back in the workshop for a complete winter rebuild.
